Great News: Black Owned Businesses Thrive in the Inland Region

Going insane was a luxury. It’s the going, that’s the treat. Going suggests travel, moving. There was no going. The madness was constant and still, sitting there, like a place on a map. The women in the beautifully brutal film 12 Years A Slave were mangled and maliciously intertwined.

It was where they lived, where they were from, born and bred into mundane inescapable crazy.

This young couple is having a great time

The twisted relationship dynamics between the two lead female characters Patsey and Mistress Epps in 12 Years A Slave are a horror. A painfully vivid illustration of the dank gnarly negotiations women had to make with each other to survive the demonic conditions of American slavery. The film fearlessly exposes a suppurating historic wound between Black and White women so wicked and utterly honest, it is both repulsive and liberating to witness.

We see the dark and sweet Patsey, doubly enslaved by virtue of her race and beauty, sway for a moment, let go like a girl, do a slow twirl. She is loose trying to lose herself, and she slips, for a moment, into a trance induced by the sound of her only friend Solomon’s sad singing violin. His is almost music. She is almost dancing. It is all almost a human moment.

Great article reading on the new smartphone

All of a sudden she goes limp, drops, knocked back into the terror of her life, by a heavy crystal decanter hurled at her head by Mistress Epps.

All of a sudden, she is once again a battered pile of dirty black woman parts wrapped in rags down on the floor. Mistress Epps is hate, full, guided and preserved by it. Patsey, the object, the affliction. She is, in Mistress Epps molested mind, literally the mistress.

Her husband Edwin Epps is addicted to Patsey, a deadly habit he will not kick, not for his wife, not for her dignity nor her sanity. The Mistress publicly demands Edwin rid himself and her home of the disease that is Patsey. He not only refuses his wife, he comfortably humiliates her.

Claiming his desire for the puddle of nasty nigger wench at their feet. The Mistress is frozen, stunned powerless by her husbands white male supremacy while Patsey is dragged away into darkness.

Patsey and the Mistress Epps personify Black and White American women’s painful slave legacy. American slavery was an insidious economic institution devised to benefit a minority of white Christian men, predicated on systemically preventing others access or the ability to establish alliances. Society has discussed how slavery successfully branded Blacks as inferior and sub-human, yet have we ever fully faced the brain washing, torture and rape terrorism practices slavery inflicted on Black and White women?

Are white privileged women jealous because their husbands had sex and lusted after black women right in their faces?

Powerful young woman taking a selfie

Do they believe the enslaved black women, purposefully seduced their white men, did they think they wanted to be raped?

Are black women in the eyes of white women, the original whores, the quintessential sluts? A sickening set of propositions, but the institution of slavery was such a sick situation for women to be in.

An evil woman is easy to understand. Mistress Epps makes clear white women bound in slavery were far more complicated than pure evil. She is in a tumultuous rage.

Never ending pleasure in talking to him

A white woman’s rage: privileged with no position, positioned with no power, powerful with no promise of independence, fidelity or safety.

The white woman could not properly direct her rage at her husband, she could not rail against white male supremacy. She too was in hell and Black enslaved women where the only ones in the chambers bellow her. So she sent her rage down and with her hot hate burned what was left of the bitches.

And the black women scorched beyond human recognition were left in pieces scattered and buried somewhere beneath hell. The concept of hell, like slavery, was designed to control and terrorize for eternity. The relationship between the mistress and the slave woman was so poisoned from its inception it could never be healed.

Is this our original sin? Could this be at the root of why Black women were cut out of the American suffrage movement when it came time for voting rights for women? Why many white abolitionist women turned their backs on the violence against southern Blacks to secure their own right to vote?

Black and White American women were doomed from the start, viciously competitive, inhuman maddening

Women’s movements can’t move in America until we have courageous honest discourse about the sadistic historic foundation of the relationship. We were systematically cultured to distrust and envy each other. We were never meant to be sisters.

Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Dubai

To experience the pleasures of eating, dine with the Italians. A sliver of life served on a platter that fades the lines between great taste and health. Experience this slice of Italy right here in Dubai! At Il Borro Tuscan Bistro. We had an opportunity to get an insight into the roots of the restaurant.

  1. Take us through the history of Il Borro. How did it all begin?

Il Borro is a name with over a 1000 year history, stretching over 700 hectares in the heart of Tuscany. It is known for its medieval village that was fully renovated to a 5 star Relais and Chateaux resort.

Owned and operated by the Ferragamo family, they developed the Tuscan Bistro as an authentic interpretation of Italian cuisine that resembles a piece of Il Borro in every corner. Putting Tuscan heritage into practice, Il Borro is home to its own wines, olive oil, honey, and a state of the art bio-farm. Sustainability and integrity lie at the core of the Il Borro philosophy.

  1. Tell us a little about your organic food – Where it’s grown/sourced from, what do you grow?

The organic produce of the restaurant comes from l’Orto Del Borro or also known as Il Borro farm. It was founded in 2012 by the passion and attention to the environment, and the local tradition. We have our own biodynamic products like organic olive oil, honey, and wine which are available in the Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Dubai.

The desire and the will to get local produce becomes the philosophy of the farm. Seasonal selected vegetables are supplied to the Dubai, and this enables us to craft sumptuous authentic Italian food in Dubai. The organic produce is sustainable and ethically grown, with a commitment to hand – craftsmanship that forms an integral part of the Il Borro brand’s pillars.

Also, we do source a selection of our products from trusted Italian suppliers that comply with the doctrine of organic and biodynamic production.

  1. Tell us a little about your organic wines – Types of wines you ferment / Process of making perfect Italian wine.

Our vines grow on the Valdarno hills, Tuscany, a perfect place for a vineyard. The unique pedoclimatic conditions infuse our wines. Autochthon grape varieties, such as Sangiovese, and those of the “Tuscan tradition,” such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot grow side by side adapting perfectly to the variability of the soil.

Specifically, Il Borro produces 10 etiquettes of its own wine, from Rosé, and Red type to White and Sparkling wines. They all are rated with great scores by the most prestigious international wine ratings.

We carefully analyse every decision to do with Il Borro wines. From the choice of grape to the clones and rootstocks, nothing was left to chance.

For example, the wine named ‘Petruna Anfora’ is produced from 100% Sangiovese grapes using only clay amphorae for making and storing the wine.  It has been awarded 92 points by Wine Spectator.

Not all of Il Borro wines are organic. Borrigiano is the only organic one. It is produced after 10 years of dedication to research, experimentation and enthusiasm in creating quality wines. Rewarded 90 points by Wine Spectator, it’s a blend of grapes: Syrah, Merlot and Sangiovese.

Two sparkling wines, one Rosé and one Brut have Methode Champenoise. They are unique products with great personality. Lately, Il Borro has added its own organic beer in the list. It is a locale Ale made with malted and organic spelt. Great to be paired with Tuscan dishes.

  1. Why Dubai (what made you target Dubai as the next step)?

Dubai is a fabulous and cutting edge capital of the hospitality and the Ferragamo family wanted to be part of this project. Dubai has indeed the right audience to address new and exciting projects in the F&B industry.

Mainly because Dubai is a challenging place and market to start with a new international brand. The business model that works in Dubai can easily then adjusted in all the other locations, worldwide. In addition, Il Borro Tuscan Bistro is partnership with OIG Company, which is based in Dubai.

  1. What’s the most recommended dish at Il Borro / Most ordered dish at Il Borro?

Our Josper grilled Fiorentina steak is our signature dish.

  1. Has opening a restaurant in Dubai influenced your food? Is there an element you’d like to experiment with at your restaurant?

Tuscan cuisine means simple food, far away from sophisticated and elaborated dishes. Most of our recipes can be traced back hundred years. They are based on leftovers of different ingredients that blend together become a magnificent soup, like “Ribollita”, that means re – boiled a traditional Tuscan soup.

Unfortunately, some traditional recipes are so simple, although they’re tasty, that it’s difficult for people to understand and appreciate the flavour. The UAE market likes the so called WOW factor (i.e. super expensive cut of meat), therefore we had to adapt some recipes to local market requirements.

Our Il Borro signature dishes are done with the same commitment and passion coming from our heart and soul same as they were prepared back on the green hills of Tuscany.

  1. Tell us one table etiquette or tradition with food/Wine that’s truly Italian.

We would rather mention a tradition than a table etiquette. In Italy before starting the lunch, the aperitivo or the dinner we use to have a toast with a glass of prosecco or other bubbly wine and saying “Salute” in an informal setting or “Cin Cin” in a more format context.

The most important step is to let the glasses touch each other and then steering in the eyes of everyone around us as gesture of respect and appreciation for attending the dinner.

HyperLoopOne

[vc_row][vc_column width=”1/1″][vc_column_text]Dubai and Abu Dhabi are now just a stone’s throw away from each other. A high-speed system, dubbed the ‘Hyperloop One’, will link the UAE capital with Dubai and drastically shorten the travel time between two cities. Through air-cushioned pods speeding through a semi-vacuumed tube, the system will revolutionize the way people travel, allowing UAE passengers to traverse a 150-kilometre distance in a matter of minutes.
Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) Ideas released a snippet of the design and function of the Hyperloop, as a trailer to what the future has to see. The official launch of HyperloopOne will take place on the 7th of November 2016.
“We are in a new time now where you can develop a new transportation system in very few years and change the world,” said Jacob Lange, partner of BIG, the team working on the design of the project. “Making the Hyperloop here would be sort of a natural step in the evolution of this place, the city and the region” added Lange.
